Philip Hughes scored a well-paced half-century against South Africa in the fifth One-Day International (ODI) of the triangular series at Harare. He has been well supported by Steven Smith who was batting on 28 when Hughes crossed the landmark. Aaron Finch, who had scored a century the last times these two teams had met, couldn’t repeat his performance and fell to a Ryan McLaren delivery in the 11th over.

Australia need to win the match in order to confirm their berth in the finals. If they lose this match, and Zimbabwe beat South Africa in the sixth ODI then the final will be between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Michael Clarke, misses out in the match due to hamstring injury, and George Bailey will lead the side.

Earlier, Australia were handed an embarassing three-wicket defeat by Zimbabwe in fourth ODI. The Australian line-up had collapsed like a pack of cards, with only Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin making meaningful contributions. The bowlers had almost pulled things back for Australia, but were undone by  a brave partnership by Prosper Utseya and Elton Chigumbura.
