West Indies thrashed Bangladesh by 73 runs in the ICC World T20 2014 Group 2 match at Dhaka on Tuesday. Chasing a total of 172, the hosts folded up for 98. This is Bangladesh second consecutive loss after a humiliating defeat to Hong Kong in the first round. Bangladesh had put the Windies into bat thinking of chasing under lights ruling out the dew factor.

Though West Indies would be happy to see that as a convincing win, they do have to look back at their strategy with the bat. Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle  were off to a subdued start. But the sloppy fielding and bowling from Bangladesh only allowed Smith to grow in confidence and go for his shots. In contrast, Chris Gayle, nursing a niggle in his ankle was not just running slow but failing to time the ball as well. But somehow he struggled to catch up and end with a run-a-ball 48. But it was Smith who had done all the hard work with 10 boundaries and three sixes in his 43-ball 72. The rest of the batsmen fell in quick succession but dropped catches and shoddy work in the outfield allowed West Indies to go past 170.
