Hobart Hurricanes comfortably beat Melbourne Stars in the first Big Bash League semi-final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on February 4, 2014. Melbourne captain Cameron White won the toss and elected to bat first.


Melbourne kept losing regular wickets in their innings and eventually posted a total of 141 for eight in their 20 overs. Brad Hodge top-scored with a 35-ball 51. His innings included four fours and two sixes.


David Hussey scored 24 runs. Right-arm leg-spinner Cameron Boyce starred with the ball as he took three wickets for 11 runs in three overs. Ben Laughling took two wickets for 33 runs.


In reply, Hobart cruised to victory in 18.1 overs. Ben Dunk and Tim Paine gave them a 51-run opening stand. Dunk scored 30 off 20 deliveries. Paine and captain George Bailey put together a 64-run partnership for the third wicket.


Paine went onto score 52 off 65 deliveries. He struck eight fours in his innings. Bailey remained unbeaten on 32 off 26 deliveries as Hobart won the match.
