After losing the One-Day International series 2-3, England began the Test campaign against Sri Lanka at Lord’s on Thursday. Sri Lanka won the toss and surprisingly elected to bowl first. But their decision proved right as the pacers made early inroads removing debutant Sam Robson and skipper Alastair Cook early. This is England’s first Test assignment after the 5-0 Ashes drubbing Down Under.

Sri Lanka’s opening bowlers found some swing to keep the batsmen quiet. Kulasekara even changed the angle and bowled from around the wicket to keep the batsmen guessing. Bell then, gave a glimpse of his ability to play with technical perfection when he drove Angelo Mathews down the ground for a sumptuous boundary. Bell also showed measured judgment outside his off-stump with Sri Lanka looking to test his patience. He was the only English batsman, who looked to come forward at every given opportunity.
