England Women won the toss and elected to bowl first against India Women. Match was halted by rains twice.
India made a slow start but Anya Shrubsole hit the right chord as she removed Thirush Kamini and Karuna Jain well within six overs. India were 18 for the loss of two wickets, when rain halted the proceedings of the match for the first time.
However, play resumed very soon. The second session of India’s innings belonged to the visitors. Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana were going good as rain halted play again. Just after play resumed, Jenny Gunn removed experienced and settled batswoman Mithali Raj. She scored 34 from 59 which included five boundaries. India were soon 77 for the loss of three.
Harmanpreet Kaur was the next batswoman to come in, as she took eight balls to open her account. Harmanpreet played some hideous shot. She held her spot with Smriti. However, a poor delivery by Heather Knight was played even more poorly by Harmanpreet Kaur as she was caught at leg slip by Charlotte Edwards.
Vellaswamy Vanitha was the next batswoman. She took eight balls to open her account. However, she took very less time after that to progress. By that time, Smriti decided to open up and bat aggressively.
Anya was welcomed by nine runs when she was called back by skipper Charlotte. Vanitha also kept on putting pressure on the England Women, by hitting boundaries in between singles.
Although, a poor call by the duo, costed in Smriti losing her wicket, as she was run out by Jenny Gunn. She scored 74 off 99 balls, which included eight boundaries.
India soon lost two more quick wickets, as Jhulan Goswami was run out by Jenny Gunn and Vanitha wascaught behind by Sarah Taylor. She scored 27 from 37.
Heather Knight was the pick of the bowlers, as she removed Harmanpreet Kaur, Vellaswamy Vanitha and Nagarajan Niranjana.
A little cameo by Shikha Pandey and Ekta Bisht came in handy for the visitors in the end.
