India scripted a memorable win over England at Lord’s defeating the home side by 95 runs on July 21, 2014. This is India’s second win at Lord’s after 1986 and only the sixth Test win in England. India also broke their overseas jinx winning the first Test overseas since 2011 when they defeated West Indies at Jamaica.
This is the first instance of three Indians entering Lord’s Honours board in a single Test. Ajinkya Rahane scored a fighting 103 on a lush green wicket. After that it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who bagged a six-wicket haul. He ran through the top four batsmen. India conceded a slender 24-run lead. In reply, Murali Vijay lead India’s quest for setting a target. He scored a patient 95 and narrowly missed out on a ton. Ravindra Jadeja hit a sparkling 68 to help the visitors post a target of 319.
It was an even contest on the last day until Ishant Sharma bounced England out with five wickets post lunch and all five were through short balls. He registere his best bowling figures of seven for 74.
