Before the start of the final day’s play at Port of Spain, the officials called off the match and the presentation ceremony began. It was evident that Ravichandran Ashwin was going to be named the Man of the Series (MOS). He scored 235 runs at 58.75 and claimed 17 wickets at 23.17, proving why he sits on top of the all-rounders’ list in ICC Test rankings.

In this series against West Indies, Ashwin went on to be the first Indian to claim two five-fors and bring up two hundreds. With his six MOS awards in a short career spanning only 36 Tests, the off-spinner surpassed cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, who had five MOS to their name. Sehwag’s congratulatory tweet said it all:

Surpassing Tendulkar in the MOS tally with less than one-fifth games, Ashwin has emerged as India’s biggest match-winner. When compared to the other Indian cricket greats, his tally looks most impressive. Lethal at home, Ashwin has an opportunity to add more such awards in his tally. If Ashwin goes on to play 100 Tests, he may end up breaking Muttiah Muralitharan’s tally of 11.
