Kings XI Punjab and the Kolkata Knight Riders faced off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 at the Barabati Stadium Cuttack. It was a game where Kolkata put up a complete all-round performance and then ultimately won the game by a comprehensive nine-wicket margin. After winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir surprised many by choosing to bowl first. And to add to all that, Kolkata had dropped Shakib Al Hasan. But, Piyush Chawla came in and bowled a good spell. He recorded figures of three for 19 as Punjab were restricted to 149 for eight. That came after Virender Sehwag smashed an aggressive 74 and Punjab had scored 85 in their first ten overs.
In reply, Robin Uthappa began the chase confidently hitting 46 off 28 balls. Once he was dismissed, Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey saw it through with two overs to spare. Gambhir recorded his third consecutive fifty in the IPL and this comes as a huge relief after he had gone through a rough patch early on.
