Kolkata Knight Riders sealed the second spot on the table with a comprehensive victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Hyderabad were put into bat first and had a slow start, but managed to get to a defendable total of 160. Hyderabad had a very slim chance of qualifying in the playoffs, and had to get Kolkata out for 23 runs, which seemed impossible.
Kolkata on the other hand needed to chase down the target in less than 15.2 overs and they would seal the second spot, which would give them an extra chance to qualify for the finals. Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa gave Kolkata the necessary start and were looking good in the middle. After losing a couple of wickets, Yusuf Pathan came into bat and turned out to be the star man. He managed to score 72 runs off just 22 balls that helped Kolkata win the match in just 14.2 overs. The Hyderabad bowlers could not manage to contain Yusuf and were smacked all over the field by the Baroda batsman.
Kolkata will now face Kings XI Punjab in the eliminator on Tuesday in Eden Gardens and will be hoping they can repeat performances of 2012, where they managed to lift the trophy.
