Kevin Pietersen and the long list of controversies

Picture 1 of 10

Kevin Pietersen has been an outspoken person since the start of his cricketing career. Born in South Africa, he represented KwaZulu Natal and scored a half-century against the England side in 1999. He was soon dropped for the racial quota which meant four non-white players in the team. An infuriated Pietersen criticised the racial quota system © Getty Images

Kevin Pietersen’s remarkable career seems to have come to a sudden halt after he was dropped from the squad to play West Indies. Pietersen’s exclusion came after the fallout with coach Andy Flower post the 0-5 whitewash against Australia in the Ashes 2013-14. The maverick batsman has been involved in many controversies since the start of his cricketing career in South Africa. This gallery looks back at all the controversies involving Pietersen. Such was his aura that in 2009, journalist Marcus Stead wote a biography Kevin Pietersen: Portrait of a Rebel.
