Manish Pandey’s unbeaten 69 guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to an impressive victory over Delhi Daredevils (DD) in Match 18 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. KKR chased down the target of 169 on the second last ball of the ultimate over of the game. Pandey along with Yusuf Pathan (59 off 39) went on to put a vital 110-run stand in 72 deliveries, thus forming a formidable base for the run-chase. Initially, riding on Sanju Samson (39), Sam Billings (21), Karun Nair (21) Shreyas Iyer (26) and Rishab Pant’s (38), DD posted a challenging total of 168. KKR’s Nathan Coulter-Nile took 3 wickets conceding just 22 runs in his 4 overs and was hence adjudged Man of the Match. Earlier, skipper Zaheer Khan gave Delhi a perfect start with the wickets of his opposite number Gautam Gambhir (14) and Colin de Grandhomme (1) while Pat Cummins sent back one down Robin Uthappa (4) to reduce the visitors to 21/3. Zaheer struck in the opening over of the innings to remove KKR’s debutant de Grandhomme, who holed out a short of length delivery to give a simple catch to Sam Billings at deep square leg.

The 34-year-old Pathan brought up his first half-century of this year’s IPL in style by dispatching Zaheer for a flat six over long-on while completing the 100-run standoff 66 deliveries. Pandey, at the other end, played the perfect second fiddle, by hitting the occasional boundaries to get to his half-century off 37 balls.

Brief score:

Delhi Daredevils 168 for 7 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 39, Rishabh Pant 38; Nathan Coulter-Nile 3 for 22, Sunil Narine 1 for 20) lost to Kolkata Knight Riders 169 for 6 in 19.5 overs (Manish Pandey 69*, Yusuf Pathan 59; Zaheer Khan 2 for 28, Pat Cummins 2 for 39) by 4 wickets at Delhi.
