Dilhara Fernando Biography
Dilhara Fernando is tall, well-built, and can bowl fast, but despite his experience he has never really emerged as the spearhead of the Sri Lankan attack — mostly due to his erratic line and length at times and that has been his problem in international cricket.
But, he is a wicket-taker and Sri Lanka backed him for that when he came to international cricket in 2000. Over the years, Fernando went from partnering Chaminda Vaas, to being a part of a younger attack led by the slingy Lasith Malinga. Along the way, injuries also hampered his progress, but Fernando remained on their radar for 12 years.
Though Fernando did not make a huge impact in Test cricket, he was fairly regular in the one-day side. His best figures of six for 27 came against England in 2007. That same year, he was in the news when he bowled Sachin Tendulkar with a beauty during a crucial World Cup game in the West Indies. He was a part of the side that went to the final that year.
In 2012, Fernando was dropped and has not been able to return to the side again.
