Dimuth Karunaratne Biography
Dimuth Karunaratne was picked as an opening batsman during Sanath Jayasuriya’s last tour. The legendary southpaw called it a day after the first ODI and Karunaratne was in the squad as a backup opener. He had won his selection at the back of some good performances in domestic cricket, where he had made his debut at the age of 20 in 2008.
Karunaratne wasn’t able to make an impact in ODIs, but has managed to get a longer run in Test cricket after he scored a half-century on debut against New Zealand in 2012. He was then picked ahead of Tharanga Paranavitana for the Tests in Australia that followed, where he had a tough time but finished the tour with an innings of 85 at Sydney. Karunaratne has been in the Test side since and has got starts, but hasn’t converted them to big scores.
