Dinesh Chandimal Biography
Talented, compact, and efficient, Dinesh Chandimal has long been earmarked as one of Sri Lanka’s future stars. That he is yet to find a permanent spot in their limited-overs side — this despite briefly being Sri Lanka’s T20I captain — has been a huge let-down. He scored both his ODI tons within his first six matches, and is yet to reach three-figures in over 80 matches since.
An effective (if not outstanding) gloveman, Chandimal is more of a batsman-wicketkeeper than the other way around. While he has done a decent job in his brief Test career, he has had a disappointing ODI record. Despite that, he showed exceptional team spirit by dropping himself midway during ICC World T20 2014, allowing Lasith Malinga to lead Sri Lanka to the title.
A First-Class batting average of over fifty is proof enough of his talent, but he needs to show similar aptitude in limited-overs cricket before he can achieve the status he seems destined for.
