Glenn Maxwell Biography
Glenn Maxwell made headlines when the Mumbai Indians acquired him at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 Auctions for a whopping USD one million. The hard-hitting batsman and off-spinner was still an unknown commodity as he had only made his international debut only the previous year for Australia, and had not really taken the world by storm till then. However, Mumbai had picked him on potential as he had played some stellar knocks in the shortest format.
In 2012, Maxwell was picked for the Australian ODIs and T20I sides, making it to the World T20. In 2013, he became a regular fixture for Australia in ODIs, and also made his Test debut on the tour of India. He played two Tests as an off-spinner who could bat, but he has thereafter carved out a name as a batsman. During the IPL 2013, he did not get too many chances and had to wait for a year to get a good run. Surprisingly, he wasn’t retained by Mumbai ahead of the 2014 auctions.
Maxwell is a fearless strokemaker. He doesn’t shy away from playing the reverse-hits off fast-bowlers. His most productive shot is the slog over the off-side, which clears the largest of grounds with ridiculous ease. He was picked by the Kings XI Punjab for IPL 2014, and made an instant impact with several breathtaking, match-winning knocks.
