Ball by Ball Commentary

It has been a good 4 days of Test cricket. We have enjoyed bringing the coverage. Do log into our live coverage of the 4th Day between South Africa and Sri Lanka today at 13:00 IST. As for the thunder down under, it shall continue on the third day of the new year. This is Siddharth Prabhakar, saying goodbye on the behalf of Ganesh, Srivathsa, Karthik and the scorer Sathyavelu. Happy New Year in advance.

M Clarke: As a team, we continue to improve. Full credit to the bowlers. India have a strong batting line-up and the bowlers did really well to restrict them. We have definite plans for every player. The tail contributed a few crucial runs. It's good to win the first Test, but we know that they will come back hard in the second Test.

MS Dhoni: We did not get to a very good start, but the bowlers brought us back into the game. We were 50 runs short in the first innings. Hussey batted really well, the lower order contributed in both knocks. Credit to the Australian bowling attack. We are known to be tentative starters and we shall be better in the next Test.

James Pattinson: It has been an unbelievable start to my career. To win the Boxing Day Test is a great feeling. The Victorian crowd is the best. Peter Siddle has been really good, running in hard and bowling so well. He has helped me a lot.

James Pattinson is the Man of the Match. He took 6/108 in the match and contributed 55 crucial runs. He managed to remain not out in both innings.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground has always been a bogey as far as the Indians are concerned. Truth be told, the fight that they gave in this match can only be an indicator of better things to come as historically, India have improved in the later stages of an Australian tour. Stay tuned for the presentation.

Credit must be given to an Australian pace attack which doesn't include Ryan Harris, Pat Cummins and M Johnson. They have found a new star James Pattinson who has built on the superlative start to his Test career with 6 more wickets added to the tally. Although the bowling figures might not suggest it, Peter Siddle bowled with fiery hostility on his home ground and was probably the chief wrecker-in-chief as far as the mental make up of the Indian batsmen was concerned. Sachin was his first wicket in Test cricket and the little master was dismissed by him in both innings. India have to work on a few key areas, but the will take heart from the bowling performance of Umesh Yadav and Zak's return to form. Sachin has looked in superb touch in both the innings and he will play a key role in the next match.

Meek surrender by India's batsmen. 292 was tough, but certainly gettable on this track. But, India's batsmen failed to even put up a fight. Sehwag fell in the short passage of play before lunch but the real collapse started in the 2nd session. Gambhir poked outside off, Dravid was bowled through the gate, Laxman flicked one straight to square leg, Kohli was gone first ball and India were down in no time. Ashwin and Dhoni prolonged the inevitable, but there was only one result possible after the initial burst by the pacers.

47.5
Lyon to Umesh Yadav
OUT

out Caught by Warner!! It's all over. Australia win the 1st match within 4 days at the MCG. Lyon flights, Umesh lofts, but Warner runs across at long on and leaps to his right to take a superb catch just inside the ropes. Excellent judgement there from Warner, and the Australian team converge to celebrate. A 122 run victory, and a superb start to the series. Umesh Yadav c Warner b Lyon 21(25) [4s-2 6s-1]

47.4
Lyon to Umesh Yadav

no run, goes back to the flat trajectory, Umesh works it to the on side

47.3
Lyon to Umesh Yadav

SIX, flights and invites Umesh Yadav for the big shot and Umesh does exactly that, goes for the big shot and smashes it over long on, Warner is standing there but he is a mere spectator

47.2
Lyon to Umesh Yadav

no run, flat again, Umesh defends to the on side

47.1
Lyon to Umesh Yadav

no run, flat and on the off, he pushes it to mid wicket

Drinks are on the field now.

46.6
James Pattinson to Umesh Yadav

1 run, full and outside off, Umesh Yadav pushes to point where Warner misfields and allows a run

46.5
James Pattinson to Umesh Yadav

no run, 'it's in the air, taken, and it's all over' shouts Ravi Shastri but it is not out. Short and on the leg stump line, goes off the thigh pad to short leg, there was an appeal for a catch but no edge there

From round the stumps now

46.4
James Pattinson to Umesh Yadav

no run, short of length and on the off, Umesh moves back and defends to point

46.3
James Pattinson to Umesh Yadav

no run, short again but too much bounce to trouble Umesh who ducks under it

46.2
James Pattinson to Umesh Yadav

no run, hits him with a short ball, bangs it in short and aims at the body, Umesh has no clue and is in no position to play or leave that, ends up getting hit on the glove, he is fine now though

46.1
James Pattinson to Ishant

1 run, back of a length and angled in, he stays back and pushes to cover for one

45.6
Lyon to Umesh Yadav

FOUR, not so patient this time, within his hitting zone and he just lofts it over the bowler's head, collects 4 more to long on

I think there should be unity first among the indian team before they started playing this series. It is the rift between Dhoni and Sehwag.. While Dhoni was heading the team, Sehwag is holding back and controlling some of the key players against Dhoni, as to head this team. Its very simple they dont want Dhoni to lead as the old players will lose their positions.First they should play for India.....
