After a gap of three years, India embark on a tough tour to South Africa in late 2013. India will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Test matches in South Africa.
The one-day leg of the tour starts on December 5
when India play a day-night game at Johannesburg Stadium against South Africa. The second and the third ODIs will be played at Durban and Centurion on December 8 and 11
The first Test match will be played at Johannesburg from December 18- 22, while the second and the final Test will be played in Durban from December 26-30, 2013.
The tour also includes a two-day practice match between the touring side and the SA Invitation XI beginning on December 14
The tour had become a subject of much wrangling between the two boards — Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa (CSA). While the BCCI wasn’t pleased with CSA’s appointment of Haroon Lorgat as the chief executive officer of the South African board, the comments made by former International Cricket Council’s legal advisor David Becker also irked the Indian cricket board.
The BCCI’s approval for the tour came only after Lorgat volunteered to step aside from the matters involving BCCI and an inquiry being launched over Becker’s comments.
Just like other teams from the subcontinent, India still hasn’t won a Test series in South Africa although they drew the last series 1-1 in 2010-11.
