Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Pune Warriors by 26 runs in their Indian Premier League game at Bengaluru. Set 182 for victory, Pune finished at 155 for 5 in its allotted 20 overs.
Captain Yuvraj Singh kept the Pune flag flying high with a superb 23-ball 41 but when he fell to Zaheer Khan, all hopes ended for them.
Earlier, Jesse Ryder kept Pune in the hunt upfront, scoring a strokeful half-century. He too fell when the southpaw was looking good for more – holing out in the deep off Syed Mohammad.
Ryder was caught by Mohammad Kaif at mid-wicket off Syed. He earlier reached his fifty with a boundary off Mithun Manhas whom he clobbered him for a six in the same over.
Ryder started proceedings on a bright note, working one from Sreenath Aravind to the fine-leg. He collected a six off Zaheer Khan through a thickish outside edge through third-man but played a more convincing shot when he pulled the left-arm pacer over mid-wicket.
Pune lost Tim Paine for 8 – the Australian fell to Sreenath Aravind.
Brief Scores: RCB 181 for 5 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 67, Chris Gayle 49; Rahul Sharma 2 for 27, Alfonso Thomas 1 for 23) vs PWI 155 for 5 in 20 overs (Jesse Ryder 51, Yuvraj Singh 41; Syed Mohammad 1 for 26, Zaheer Khan 1 for 33, Sreenath Aravind 1 for 35) by 26 runs.
