Jeet Ravalc Hashim Amla b Keshav Maharaj 36 83 6 0 43.37
25.4
K Maharaj to J Raval, OUT! Maharaj gets his man! Floated outside off, Raval lunges forward in defence. Gets an outside edge which flies away towards Hashim Amla at first slip who does not make any mistake and pouches a simple catch. All the efforts of batting out the whole session go in vain as Raval makes his way back to the pavilion. With the wicket, the umpires call for LUNCH ON DAY 1.
Tom Lathamc Dean Elgar b Morne Morkel 8 18 1 0 44.44
6.2
M Morkel to Tom Latham, OUT! MORKEL STRIKES! And South Africa are away. Beautiful from Morne Morkel. Bowls it on a back of a length, on off, Latham has no choice but to play at it. Gets a thick outside edge and it flies behind to Dean Elgar at third slip who moves to his left to take it. New Zealand down a wicket early in this game.
Kane Williamson (C)lbw b Kagiso Rabada 2 10 0 0 20
8.6
K Rabada to Williamson, OUT! WILLIAMSON DEPARTS! That's a big, big wicket for the Proteas. The Kiwi juggernaut has been dismissed early as South Africa celebrate. A vital moment in the hosts' innings and they're in early trouble here. Rabada with a length delivery around off, it's swinging back in heavily as Williamson tries to meet it with a straight bat. Is beaten completely by the inswing as the ball goes past the inside edge and raps him on the back pad. South Africa go up in union and the umpire raises his finger. The kiwi skipper consults his partner and decides to review it. Since there is no Ball Tracking, the third umpire does not have any conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field umpire's call and so, the decision stays. New Zealand in some real trouble here.
Neil Broomc Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada 0 4 0 0 0
10.4
K Rabada to Broom, OUT! Rabada with another one! But what a catch, Quinton de Kock. Sensational stuff from the Protea keeper. Kagiso with a brilliant length delivery on off, it shapes away at the last second and forces Neil Broom to play at it. He has to stick his bat out, ends up getting an edge which flies behind. Quinton de Kock dives full stretch to his right, dives low and takes it with one hand. Not the ideal debut Neil Broom would have liked. But a stunner of a catch which sees South Africa clearly on top of this game right now.
Henry Nichollsb JP Duminy 118 161 15 0 73.29
69.3
JP Duminy to H Nicholls, OUT! HE'S BOWLED 'EM! JP Duminy has dismissed Henry Nicholls but the southpaw has played a massive knock here today. Should be proud of the way he's steered his side to safer shores. It's tossed up on leg, turns a bit as Nicholls looks to flick it away. Brushes off the pads and crashes into the timber. Big breakthrough for South Africa, this. The wicket spells the end of a vital 116-run stand.
Jimmy Neeshamst Quinton de Kock b Keshav Maharaj 15 18 3 0 83.33
31.4
K Maharaj to Neesham, OUT! Maharaj with another breakthrough! The positive start from Jimmy Neesham comes to an end. Flighted around off, Neesham comes ahead to block but in the process, drags his back leg out. Quinton de Kock sees this and he's lightning with his glovework. Whips the bails off in an instant and his face says he's got his man. Neesham starts walking without even waiting for the decision and replays show why. He's clearly out. Another wicket down for the Kiwis. They're in real trouble here.
Bradley Watling (W)c Quinton de Kock b JP Duminy 34 132 4 0 25.76
73.2
JP Duminy to Watling, OUT! BJ Watling is gone! A little unfortunate on his part, though. He kneels down to this flighted ball around off and attempts to sweep. Gets an inside edge which goes off the back pad and thuds into Quinton de Kock's gloves. South Africa appeal, the umpires aren't sure so the decision goes upstairs. Replays confirm that it indeed went off the back pad and not the ground. Watling has to make the long walk back.
Colin de Grandhommec Hashim Amla b JP Duminy 4 4 0 0 100
71.1
JP Duminy to Grandhomme, OUT! Edged and gone! Good catch from Hashim Amla at first slip. Duminy bowls the straighter one outside off, Colin de Grandhomme steps out and fishes for it. Gets an edge which is taken well by Amla. Another wicket down for the home side.
Tim Southeec Vernon Philander b Morne Morkel 27 30 2 2 90
78.3
M Morkel to Southee, OUT! Southee's cameo comes to an end! Fuller delivery into the stumps, Southee goes for another biggie but this time does not get the desired contact. He gets the elevation but not the distance on it as Philander from mid on runs towards his right to take a fine catch.
Jeetan Patelnot out 17 14 1 1 121.43
Neil Wagnerlbw b JP Duminy 2 3 0 0 66.67
79.3
JP Duminy to Wagner, OUT! Duminy strikes! Tossed up in the line of the stumps, Wagner tries to clip it on the leg side but misses the ball completely. He gets rapped on the pads and the players appeal in unison. The umpire raises his finger in acceptance and Wagner is quick to use the final review. Replays show that there was no bat involved. Ball Tracker shows that the ball was pitched in line, impact in line and it's hitting. So that makes it three reds and Wagner has to walk back to the hut. NEW ZEALAND END ON 268.

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Stephen Cookc Jimmy Neesham b Tim Southee 3 12 0 0 25
4.4
Tim Southee to S Cook, OUT! Southee draws first blood! Length delivery curving away, Cook falls prey to the delivery as he goes fishing for it. The ball catches the outside edge and goes towards the fielder at second slip. Neesham stays put and takes an easy catch. The Kiwis are delighted as Cook walks back to the hut. Can they scalp another one before the end of first days play?
Dean Elgarc Jimmy Neesham b Colin de Grandhomme 9 19 1 0 47.37
5.3
de Grandhomme to Elgar, OUT! Colin de Grandhomme gets his first! Length delivery angling into the stumps from just outside off, Elgar stretches forward to reach at it and ends up edging it towards the fielder at second slip. Neesham grabs another one as he crouches low to catch it. With both the openers back in the hut, the Kiwis will be delighted.
Kagiso Rabadab Tim Southee 9 10 2 0 90
8.5
Tim Southee to Rabada, OUT! Gone through the gate! Full inswinging delivery angling into the pads, Rabada moves a bit away and tries to clip it through. He fails to make contact and the ball hits the pads first, then goes onto hit the timber. The nightwatchman's short stay in the middle comes to an end. Southee gets the first wicket of the day and his initial plan of getting his man has worked this time around.
Hashim Amlac Henry Nicholls b Colin de Grandhomme 21 63 4 0 33.33
24.4
Grandhomme to Amla, OUT! HE'S GONE! New Zealand right on top here and they're on a roll. Similar to JP Duminy's dismissal, Hashim Amla departs playing a poor shot. Full and angling in on the pads, he flicks it uppishly but gets the placement all wrong. Chips it towards Henry Nicholls at short mid-wicket, who initially fumbles but then catches it on the second attempt as he falls down. The Kiwis are ecstatic as half the Protea side is back in the pavilion. Big, big wicket this. Colin de Grandhomme strikes instantly on his return to the attack.
JP Duminyc Henry Nicholls b Neil Wagner 16 21 3 0 76.19
17.1
N Wagner to Duminy, OUT! Soft dismissal! Half volley into the pads, Duminy clips it straight to the fielder at mid-wicket. Nicholls the fielder there makes no mistake as he takes a regulation catch. Wagner will be relishing his luck on getting a wicket on such a delivery and Duminy will be disappointed to throw it away. South Africa have lost their fourth wicket there.
Faf du Plessis (C)c Bradley Watling b Colin de Grandhomme 22 40 1 1 55
30.3
de Grandhomme to Plessis, OUT! THAT'S A HUGE WICKET! Big, big wicket. Colin de Grandhomme has put New Zealand's nose right in front with that. South Africa are in the deep end here. Full and swinging just in outside off, Faf du Plessis reaches out to it for some reason as he looks to smash it through the covers. Gets an inside edge which goes behind. Credit to BJ Watling here, he initially moves to his right and then dives low to his left and takes an excellent catch. Not an easy thing to do with the ball moving about so much. New Zealand celebrate but the umpire wants to check if the catch was clean. Replays show it was and the Protea skipper is out of here. The visitors still trail by 174 as they lose their 6th wicket.
Temba Bavumac Jimmy Neesham b Neil Wagner 89 160 9 0 55.63
78.1
N Wagner to Bavuma, OUT! Wagner gets his man! Short delivery into the body, Temba Bavuma takes on the short ball and goes for the pull. Finds himself top-edging it towards deep mid-wicket. Neesham runs in to take a fine catch. A beautiful and sensible innings from the Protea comes to an end. He too falls short of his hundred but played an innings of a lot of importance in the context of the game. New Zealand need a couple of more wickets to bowl SA out.
Quinton de Kock (W)c Bradley Watling b Jimmy Neesham 91 118 10 3 77.12
69.1
J Neesham to Kock, OUT! A class act comes to an end! The bowling trick has done the trick! Neesham strikes in his very first over of the spell. Good length delivery angling away from outside off, Quinton shuffles across and tries to push at it. He nicks it this time and the ball goes through to the keeper. BJ Watling pounces on it and a brilliant fighting knock by Quinton de Kock comes to an end. He came in at a time when the South African side were struggling and he managed to bail his team out. A much needed wicket for the Kiwis.
Vernon Philandernot out 37 77 5 0 48.05
Keshav Maharajc Kane Williamson b Neil Wagner 1 5 0 0 20
81.1
N Wagner to Maharaj, OUT! Wagner strikes first ball on returning to the attack. The new ball does the trick without wasting much time. Length ball around off, Maharaj throws his bat at this. Gets a top edge which balloons towards extra cover. Kane Williamson is the man there and he settles himself underneath it to take a good catch.
Morne Morkelb Jeetan Patel 40 63 7 0 63.49
97.6
J Patel to M Morkel, OUT! Gone through the gate! Tossed up delivery around off which comes in with the angle. Morkel prods forward in defence but he cannot block it as the ball sneaks in between the bat and pad to rattle the timber. Jeetan Patel gets his man and SOUTH AFRICA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 359!

4.3
M Morkel to Tom Latham, OUT! Morkel draws first blood! Latham's poor run of form continues with this! Fuller length delivery angling away from outside off, Latham goes for a drive on the up. He manages to edge it, which flies towards the slip region. Duminy at fourth slip makes no mistake and gobbles it safely. The constant length around off has helped Morkel get his man. Another poor start for New Zealand.
Jeet Ravalst Quinton de Kock b Keshav Maharaj 80 174 10 0 45.98
57.3
K Maharaj to Raval, OUT! Maharaj gets his man! Full and fired wide outside off, Raval dances down track and tries to have a go at it. He misses it completely. Quinton gathers it and does not miss it this time. He quickly dislodges the bails and sends the batsman back to the hut. Raval's innings of sheer grit and determination comes to an end.
Kane Williamson (C)c Quinton de Kock b Morne Morkel 1 6 0 0 16.67
6.5
M Morkel to Williamson, OUT! HUGE WICKET FOR SA! Good length delivery around off, Kane Williamson stays in his crease and tries to defend it. The ball whizzes past the outside edge and goes straight into the gloves of the keeper. The South Africans go up in appeal and Kumar Dharmasena says no. The Proteas seem confident as they go for a review the very next moment. Replays show that it was a fair delivery. Then the umpire calls for the HotSpot which shows there was a very faint edge which the South Africans recognized really well. The umpire has to change his decision and the New Zealand skipper has to walk back to the pavilion. Morkel has got the main wicket and he will be delighted with his bowling today.
Neil Broomc Quinton de Kock b Morne Morkel 20 57 3 0 35.09
24.4
M Morkel to Broom, OUT! Morne Morkel strikes in his very first over after break! Length delivery angling in and then nips away after pitching. Broom prods forward in defence and tries to push at it but he gets beaten by the away movement as he nicks it. The ball flies away behind and Quinton de Kock stretches to his right to take a brilliant catch. Another wicket falls and NZ are in trouble.
Henry Nichollsb Keshav Maharaj 7 21 0 0 33.33
31.1
K Maharaj to Nicholls, OUT! Dragged it on! Floated way outside off, Nicholls reaches out to it and goes for the sweep. Cannot make the desired contact as he gets an inside edge which ricochets into the stumps. Such a poor shot to get out on. He was disappointed and should be. The centurion of the first innings hardly made any difference. Keshav Maharaj gets his first.
Jimmy Neeshamc Faf du Plessis b Keshav Maharaj 4 5 1 0 80
31.6
Maharaj to Neesham, OUT! Neesham throws it away! Tossed up around off, Jimmy dances down the track and goes for the big slog but only manages to find the fielder at short mid-wicket. Skipper Faf du Plessis hangs himself in the air and plucks it off to take a stunning catch. Maharaj is making it count. New Zealand still trail by a run.

63.2
K Maharaj to Watling, OUT! Maharaj gets his sixth! Tossed up around middle and leg, Watling dances down the track to reach the pitch of the ball. He does not get there well and only manages to uppishly drive this one towards the fielder at mid off. Duminy gets forward and takes a sitter. Maharaj also registers his career best figures of 20.2-7-6-40. NEW ZEALAND END ON 171!
Colin de Grandhommeb Keshav Maharaj 0 6 0 0 0
59.3
K Maharaj to Grandhomme, OUT! Castled! Tossed up around middle and leg, the ball spins a away a lot. Colin de Grandhomme goes deep in his crease and hangs his bat in defence. He is totally beaten by the away spin as it goes onto rattle the stumps. Another poor performance by the batsman. Maharaj is making the most of it.
