England captain Alastair Cook and batting star Joe Root reflect on an enthralling draw against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Lord’s. England were only one wicket away from sealing the first Test of the two-match series. Sri Lanka were chasing a 390-run target. James Anderson’s burst in the final session on Day Five is what helped England to get within a inch from a win. Anderson and and Stuart Broad were magnificent as Sri Lanka crumbled from 169 for three to 201 for nine in the last over of the match.

But last man Nuwan Pradeep managed to survive five testing deliveries from Broad, including a successful LBW appeal, which was overturned after review. In the end, one would question Cook’s decision to declare England’s second innings so late as time was consumed. There is only one Test left for either team to win the series.
