A video of the dismissal of Joe Root on Day Two of the third Ashes 2013-14 Test against Australia. There was controversy involved in the decision as he did not seem to edge the ball as it was caught by Brad Haddin behind the wickets.
Shane Watson pitched one in on a good length and the ball just moved away from the England batsman. The Australians went up in appeal as Haddin collected the ball. Umpire Marais Erasmus immediately raised his finger and Root immediately asked for the referral confidently.
The replays showed no real deviation off the bat, nor did the Hot Spot show any sign of an edge. Even the real-time Snicko did not show any change in the vibrations as the ball passed the bat. But there was a tiny change after the ball had passed the bat.
The third umpire could not see enough evidence to overturn the decision and Root had to head back to the dressing room. He was dismissed for four off 16 balls. England are at 180 for four at stumps on Day Two at the WACA.
