Former South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock said that Graeme Smith‘s decision to retire from Test matches came as a big surprise to him and cited that personal reasons and injuries may have contributed to him making the decision.

Pollock also said that Smith had done an exceptional job in taking the South African team to the pinnacle of Test cricket and hoped that his successors will also follow in the same footsteps.

Pollock also added that captaining a side at the age of 22 was no easy task and also mentioned that Smith had done really well to take over the mantle as South Africa captain and had lead from the front thus establishing the side as one of the most dangerous ones in Test cricket.
