Mahela Jayawardene retirement press conference

A press conference video of Mahela Jayawardene after the final day’s play against Pakistan in the second Test match at Colombo on Monday.

Mahela Jayawardene spoke to commentator Dean Jones about his Test career and his plans for the future. Jayawardene expressed his willingness to contribute to the growth of Sri Lankan cricket at junior levels but remained firm that he won’t take up any kind of coaching job.

“I don’t know whether I have the patience to be a coach. It is a tough job. I will definitely try and contribute to Sri Lankan cricket. I will get involved with junior cricketers not as coach but develop them as cricketers. I haven’t really thought so far ahead. I still have at least eight months of cricket left ahead,” said Jayawardene.

Jayawardene ends his Test career with 11,814 runs in 149 Test matches. He missed a couple of records and one of them was the opportunity to end with a caree
