Australian batsman Phil Hughes explains the technique involved in playing the cut shot. It is one of Hughes’ favourite shot. Hughes says that the basics of a cut shot involves being sharp on your feet and transferring the weight on your backfoot.

Hughes is a predominantly off-side player. His stance is a bit square and prefers to take a middle-stump guard. These two techniques make it easy for him to free his arms on the off-side. Hughes says that cut shot is something he played right from when he was eight years of age.

Hughes was recently included in the Australian One-Day side at the back of some impressive performances. He became the first to score a double century for Australia in List A when he smashed the South Africa A bowlers. He also notched his career-best bowling performance recently when he scored a double ton against the same opposition.
