An emotional Michael Clarke addressed the media in the wake of the unfortunate demise of his friend and colleague Phillip Hughes due to a freak injury sustained during a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales. Hughes was struck on the back of the head, attempting a pull shot to a Sean Abbot bouncer. He was momentarily dazed after being struck before falling face-first onto the ground.

He was rushed to the hospital following the blow and battled for his life for over two days but unfortunately failed to regain consciousness.
