Yorkshire have won their first county championship title since 2001, after beating Nottinghamshire by an innings and 152 runs.  Ryan Sidebottom cherished the ‘special moment’ after Yorkshire clinch the 2014  County Championship title with victory over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The Yorkshire batsman put up a strong batting performance and scored 532 before declaring. Adam Lyth scored a century, while Gary Ballance just missed his century after being dismissed on 99. Ryan Sidebottom, Adil Rashid and Jack Brooks then skittled out the Nottingham batsman for 203 in the first innings, forcing them to follow-on.

For Nottingham, Gary Keedy picked up five wickets and Chris Read scored an unbeaten 81 in the first innings. Their second innings started on bad note, with Steven Mullaney departing in just the first ball. Alex Hales and James Taylor put some resistance and made sure that they did not lose on the third Day itself.

Ryan Sidebottom ran through the the Nottinghamshire tail early on day four in what was a single minded effort to wrap things up early on Day four. Sidebottom was rampant and wickets fell cheaply as wild celebrations sparked off after Yorkshire winning the county championship for the first time in 13 years.

Brief scores:

Yorkshire 532 (Adam Lyth 122, Gary Ballance 99, Tim Bresnan 95; Gary Keedy 5 for 163) beat Nottinghamshire 203 (Michael Lumb 41, Chris Read 81*, Luke Fletcher 23; Jack Brooks 4 for 58, Ryan Sidebottom 3 for 35) & 177 (Alex Hales 43, James Taylor 75, Samit Patel 25; Ryan Sidebottom 6 for 30) by innings and 152 runs.
