Cheteshwar Pujara said in a press conference that the players are fit enough to match the intensity of Johannesburg. He urged the Team to replicate their performance.
He stressed he has familarised himself with South African conditions. He batted for Ashwin when he said Ashwin bowled well despite being a pace bowlers paradise; he also stressed that Faf du Plessis struggled to play him. The India number three also revealed that the Team had not made a call on the final eleven yet.
He thought the bowlers were very good apart from the frustrating session between lunch and tea that India endured when Ab de Villiers and Faf du Plessis were threatening to take the game away from India.
Pujara did not shy away from stating that South Africa didn’t go for victory as they didn’t have confidence in their tail-enders when asked about the impressive show by the Proteas while chasing a target in excess of 450.
“Only two of their batsmen, Faf and AB scored runs in the whole match. We are confident that we can get their batsmen out. Also, if you notice, they didn’t go for victory in the end, so they are not confident about their tail-enders getting runs,” the Saurashtra batsman pointed out.
