India, ranked No. 1 in Test cricket, suffered a 1-3 defeat on their last Test tour of England and this time, they will be looking for a redemption under the fiery leadership of Virat Kohli who has his own demons to conquer. Kohli had a forgettable outing in the 2014 series where England paceman James Anderson had his number. The spin pair of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja face some strong competition from the young chinaman Kuldeep Yadav for a place in the playing XI. Kuldeep might just get the nod ahead of Jadeja while Ashwin keeps his place on account of his better record as a Test batsman.

Indian pacers will also be eager to prove themselves in England’s bowling-friendly conditions. On the other hand, England will want nothing less than a victory in a contest which happens to be theisr 1000th Test. The series promises to be a closely fought affair.
