VVS Laxman welcomes ICC’s decision to play day-night Tests

VVS Laxman welcomed the prospect of playing Day-night Test cricket but also cautioned about the durability of pink balls.

VVS Laxman who recently joined CricketCountry as a chief cricket mentor welcomed the prospect of playing Day-night Test matches. He though expressed his issues of the durability of the pink balls which will be used in the Tests. He cited the example of an India A tour to Australia where the players had issues with the pink ball. He though welcomed the move from International Cricket Council (ICC) for innovating and trying to get spectators to the stadium. He though was circumspect about the quality of the pink balls since it will be a challenge to see those balls last an entire day of Test and therefore concluded that one needed to wait to see how pink balls work. Adelaide Oval is set to host the first day-night Test, to be held between Australia and New Zealand, in a finalised schedule of a three-Test series from November 5 to December 1. The Adelaide Test will be the third of this series; the Test match days are from November 27 to December 1. The idea of day-night Tests had been floating for the last few years, but uncertainty and apprehension about its feasibility, with doubts over the visibility of the pink ball manufactured for this type of event, prevented this from being discussed with optimism by players.
