Ex-RCB star: ‘Lalit Modi Threatened To End My Career’: A Startling Disclosure
Ex-RCB Star's Amazing Disclosure
In the first Indian Premier League (IPL) season, fast bowler Praveen Kumar, a former member of the Indian cricket team, disclosed that Royal Challengers Bangalore was not his first choice. He also described how Lalit Modi’s harsh response to his unwillingness to join the club came from Kumar. In a conversation with Lallantop, Praveen revealed that he signed a document from an RCB official that turned out to be a contract, but he still wanted to play for the Delhi Daredevils because they were close to his hometown of Meerut. Upon approaching Lalit to inform him of his decision, Praveen was threatened with termination from the IPL by the commissioner.
“Because Bangalore was too distant from my house, I didn’t speak English, and the food wasn’t to my taste, I didn’t want to play for RCB. Since Delhi and Meerut are very close, I might have occasionally visited my house. But there was this person who forced me to sign a document. I was unaware that it was a contract. I informed them that I preferred to play for Delhi over Bangalore. During the interview, Praveen stated, “Lalit Modi called me and threatened to ruin my career.”
Ball-tampering was once a popular technique among players, according to former Indian fast bowler Praveen Kumar. He also mentioned that Pakistani bowlers used to do it a little more frequently than others in order to improve their reverse swing.
In the 1990s, reverse swing became a potent tool for fast bowlers, and Pakistani fast bowlers were regarded as masters of the art.
Players used to scratch the ball from one side to make it reverse swing, according to Praveen in an interview with Lallantop. However, he noted that even after tampering, one still requires expertise to exploit the reverse swing effectively in bowling.
“They (the Pakistani bowlers) do it a little bit more than everyone else. It’s what I’ve been told. Nowadays, cameras are present everywhere. Everyone used to do it in the past. And everybody is aware of it. They would start at one side and scratch it. However, you also need to know how to apply that ability. Someone must be able to reverse-swing the ball if I scratch it and deliver it to them. You have to get that knowledge,” Praveen stated.
