After hotel in Dhaka, Indian cricketers unhappy with name ‘Za’ N Zee Ice Cream Series’ against Bangladesh

‘Za’ N Zee Ice Cream Series’ is what the name of the ongoing three-match One-Day International (ODI) and one-off Test between India and Bangladesh is. Golu Sharma reports that the Indian cricketers, who have already expressed dissatisfaction over their hotel in Dhaka, are also not happy with this name.

The Indian cricket team in Bangladesh seems to be a troubled lot. After their complains over the place where they are staying, the Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka, sources close to the touring cricket team suggest the they are not happy with the name of the series. Add Cricket Country as a Preferred Source

The sources, who requested for their identities to be kept in dark, inform that the team is not very pleased with the name of the series. They say that the Indian cricketers are used to serious stuff as they want to create a new legacy, playing aggressive cricket and winning more matches across the globe than what they have done in the past. A source told this reporter that with all due respect to the organisers, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the sponsors of the two series that the name does not have the ‘right ring to it’.  They say it is a name that does not attract cricketing battles that teams generally indulge in with the other teams. There is also a thought that with Bangladesh starting to take their cricket more seriously, it is unacceptable that they are participating in a series whose name does not command respect. “I do not want to bring disrepute to the tour or to the organisers, but the name ‘Za’ N Zee Ice Cream Series’ simply does not goes well with the battles the two teams are having on the cricket field,” one of the sources close to the team said. It can be stated that a section of the touring Indian contingent wanted to raise this issue with the host nation along with their unhappiness over the hotel, but they decided to be remembered as good travellers — and not poor ones — a term which has generally been associated with the Indian cricket team travelling abroad. Meanwhile, despite desperate efforts it was not confirmed what happened in the Indian cricket team’s meeting on Thursday night after it suffered their heaviest defeat in terms of runs against Bangladesh in ODI cricket history. India lost the opening match by 79 runs and there were unconfirmed reports around the touring team that those who erred in their roles got a lashing from their interim coach and director, Ravi Shastri.
