The cricket and Bollywood fraternities have enjoyed a long-standing relationship when it comes to link-ups between cricketers and Bollywood actresses. Adding on to the list of âThe love story of a batsman & a Bollywood actressâ, Indian vice-captain Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma recently acknowledged their relationship and since then have made it to headlines on a regular scale.
Much was expected from the Indian batting line-up in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 semi-finals against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday and especially from Kohli after his splendid 147 and 46 at the same ground, which led India to a creditable draw against Australia in the Test series earlier this year. But the batting stalwart was dismissed for a mere single off a Mitchell Johnson short ball, much to the disappointment of the crowd and his lady-love, who was present in the stands. India eventually lost the match by 95 runs and were knocked out of the tournament.
The defeat led to a social media outbreak with fans slamming Anushkaâs presence in the stadium, which they thought distracted the batsman from performing well for the team. Twitter had exploded with angry reactions from Indian supporters who blamed the actress left right and centre. Dairy brand, Amul thus came to their rescue with a sweet caricature featuring Kohli and partner Anushka, thereby hitting back at the critics for their hurtful comments. The headline reads, ‘Sab ne banna di jodi‘, which is similar to Anushka’s debut film title ‘Rab ne bana di jodi‘, starring Shah Rukh Khan as the lead. The caricature shows the actress sharing a meal (bread with Amul butter) with her beau and a tag line ‘Have it NHow!’, referring to Anuskha’s recently released movie, NH 10.
