Every cricketer s social media carries a story. They express their views on critical matters; they do not shy away from participating in banters; they also send across good wishes on various occasions. To put things into perspective, it seems like cricketers today are just a text away.

Twitter remains to be one of the favourable medium for everyone. Thanks to the extension of word limit to 280 characters, cricketers have become all the more vocal. Last year, Virat Kohli s Shame Tweet in support of his lady love Anushka Sharma had taken the social media by storm. This year, the couple added a ring to it and got married in Italy. If MS Dhoni resigning as the India captain was hard to digest, Harsh Goenka dissing him just added fuel to the fire. And Abhinav Mukund s racial abuse message served as a fitting reply to the trolls.

Cricketers, after all, finally mastered the art of counterattacking Sehwag-ism. Let us look back at some of the intriguing tweets of 2017:

‘Fair isn’t the only lovely or handsome’

Racial abuse has never been spoken of so openly the way Mukund did. He vented out his frustration after being targeted for his colour. In response he received tremendous support from his Tamil Nadu teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Bengal s Manoj Tiwary also appreciated Mukund s efforts to raise the issue.

Soon after Mukund s message, Geoffrey Boycott trended for his racial comment during the Tesr series between England and West Indies. Boycott suggested he would be more likely to be given a knighthood if he blacked up and claimed confetti were handed over to West Indies cricketers during a Q&A session. However, he soon realised his fault and apologised right away. His commentary role with Sky Sports was retained.

Captain or no captain, Dhoni Dhoni hai

Dhoni resigned as India s limited-overs captain on January 4. All hopes were pinned to IPL where everyone could see Dhoni donning the captaincy hat once again. However, Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) owner, Rajiv Goenka, became the perfect party-spoiler. Dhoni was sacked from the role, making Steven Smith the leader.

Soon after the conclusion of the first IPL match between RPS and Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajiv s brother Harsh Goenka was all gaga for Smith and hailed him above Dhoni. Of course, the fans were irked for dissing Dhoni. Sakshi Dhoni, too, came in support of her husband and proved why she was Biwi No. 1 (apology for the analogy).

After the IPL matter resided, Harsh did not spare Kohli as well. This time he targeted the Kohli-Anil Kumble saga.

Rishte mein toh hum tumhare baap lagte hai, naam hai Amitabh Bachchan…

Amitabh’s love for cricket in known. Not to forget, Amitabh also commentated during the India vs Pakistan 2015 World Cup match. This time, Amitabh continued to extend his undying support for the game.

During the India-Australia Test series, when the entire Australian media mocked Kohli, Amitabh reminded them baap baap hota hai (know who’s the boss!).

He also summed up the semi-finalists of 2017 Champions Trophy with an emphatic observation.

Gautam Gambhir s stands up for Zohra

During the terror attack at Jammu and Kashmir s Anantnag in August, Assistant sub-inspector Abdul Rashid lost his life while saving several others. His death was mourned deeply by his daughter Zohra, whose pictures of sobbing at funeral broke many hearts. Gambhir, who runs his a foundation, decided to fund her education.

Zohra expressed her gratitude for his kind gesture.

Sachin Tendulkar s oopsy moment

Bangladesh had plenty of moments to cheer in 2017. They pulled off their maiden victory against England, Sri Lanka and then Australia in Tests. Upon winning the first Test against Australia, Tendulkar took to Twitter to congratulate Bangladesh on their historic win. However, Tendulkar terming the win an upset did not go well with the Bangladeshi supporters:

The Bangladesh trollers were quick to remind Tendulkar that they were no longer the underdogs.

Teen Tigaada Kaam Bigaada

That was exactly the case when Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik made evening drive plans on their new motorbike. Sri Lanka returned to Lahore to play the final match of T20I series. Sania was present at the Gadaffi Stadium where Malik scored an unbeaten half-century claiming the Man of the Match award.

As soon as the motorbike was presented to Malik, Sania promptly took to Twitter to ask her husband for a bike ride. Malik even agreed for the ride until Shadab Khan became kabab mein haddi.

Shadab, however, realised he was interfering in a Miyan-Biwi plan and instantly apologised.

When cricketers learned the art of Sehwag-ism

Talk about Twitter and you do not mention Sehwag that would be a crime. We all know Sehwag is known for his witty birthday wishes and banters. This time, he found competition from God-ji and Darji (Ross Taylor).

– When Tendulkar sent an ‘ulta birthday wish to Sehwag and ‘God-ji left the God of Twitter stunned…

– Meanwhile, Taylor took his name pretty seriously

And there were times when even festive or momentary wishes from cricketers added smile on fans face…

Independence Day wish from Sarhad ke us paar :

Kohli thanked his cricketing idols in a phenomenal way on Teachers Day:

While smog was catching up in Delhi, Yuvraj batted for pollution-free Diwali, and to much surprise, he was brutally trolled:

Russel Arnold s unpredictable prediction

Ever seen a phenomenon in cricket where a team can inflict 5-0 whitewash in a three-match ODI series. Sri Lanka s Russel Arnold believes that it can happen:

Alas! Arnold was shown the reality. Arnold s unpredictable predictions provoked VVS Laxman to troll someone:

When love conquered 2017

Lastly, the curtains were finally lifted from an affair that left several cricket aficionados, fans and even journalists bewildered. Kohli, Anushka finally tie the knot and welcomed the world in the second innings of their life after a hush-hush wedding in Italy:

The pictures were released together by Virushka, carrying the same message.
