Daniel Christian’s 129 from Middlesex’s total of 192 runs breaks numerous records
Christian's 129 from team’s 192 runs breaks records

In an English T20 Blast match, Daniel Christian smashed 129 runs off 58 balls and his team’s next highest score was 14 which ended up Middlesex scoring only 192 in 19.4 overs against Kent. Christian’s 67.18 per cent of his team’s runs are at top spot in the lists provided by Bharath Seervi, who also lists some other records created and overcome by Christian in the innings.
On June 6, 2014, at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury in a South Division English T20 Blast between Kent and Middlesex, the former won the toss and elected to bat. After their first wicket fell on 33 in the fourth over, Kent captain Robert Key (36 off 24) and No 3 batsman Sam Northeast (54 off 34) provided stability to the team as they scored 87 for two in the first 10 overs. Late hitting by Alex Blake (58 not out off 31) and wicketkeeper Sam Billings (31 not out off 12) swept the total to 208 for four in 20 overs. The inning included 66 runs in the last four overs.
Middlesex were playing their sixth match with no win in the first five games and were set a target of 209 to open their account this season. In the chase, the first four batsmen’s scores were four by Paul Stirling, 12 by Dawid Malan, 10 by captain Eoin Morgan and nine by Joe Denly. With three wickets for 38 runs in the powerplay overs, chase of 209 was always a tough task for any team. At No 5 came Daniel Christian with a batting average of 19.77 and four 50-plus scores in his T20 career of 111 matches.
Christian soon reached his half-century off 25 balls with five fours and four sixes in the 11th over when team’s score was 93. He continued his attack. But the wickets kept falling on the other side. By the 15th over Middlesex were six wickets down with the score nearing 140. Christian went past his highest score in T20s [75 not in the Big Bash League in 2011-12] and gradually reached his maiden century with a six to Doug Bollinger in the 17th over on the 46th delivery he faced. His century was completed with nine fours and eight sixes. He was out in the final over when 19 runs needed of six deliveries. The next best score in the team was 14 by Toby Roland-Jones at No 8.
Christian’s 129 (57) which included 12 fours and 10 sixes went in vain as his team Middlesex lost the match by 16 runs. This was their sixth straight loss in the tournament. Thought the inning did not result in the team’s victory, there were few records broken by Christian.
