Dennis Lillee and Rudi Koertzen

On the left is former Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee, who is considered to be one of the greatest fast bowlers of all-times. Having made his international debut in 1971, Dennis picked up 31 Test wickets at 17.67 during the 1972 Ashes tour.

He went on to play in 70 Tests and 63 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia. Known for his lithe built, fiery temperament, speed and immense ability with the leather, he was extremely popular in the cricket circuit and was one if the most feared competitors. During his heydays, Lilee sported long hair, moustache and headband. With 355 dismissals from just 70 Tests, Lillee broke Lance Gibbs’ world record of 309 Test wickets. He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in the year 2009. Post his retirement in 1984; Lillee has earned the international reputation as a fast bowling coach, having coached the likes of Javagal Srinath, Chaminda Vaas, Zaheer Khan, Brett Lee, Shaun Tait, etc.

The person on the right is former international cricket umpire, Rudi Koertzen. He tried his hand in umpiring at the age of 43, when he officiated a Test in 1992-93 at Port Elizabeth, the first series in which TV replays were used to judge run-out decisions. Koertzen was appointed as a full-time International Cricket Council (ICC) umpire in 1997 and in 2002 became a member of the Emirates ICC Elite umpire panel. He bettered David Shepherd’s record of standing in 172 ODIs in 2007 during the Cricket World Cup match between England and West Indies at Barbados.

Koertzen stood in 108 Test matches, 209 ODIs and 14 Twenty 20 Internationals before retiring in 2010. His last appearance as an international umpire was in Test match between Pakistan and Australia at Leeds in July 2010.
