While the other Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsmen came cropper as the Ajinkya Rahane-led side was restricted to 115/9 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on Saturday, Riyan Parag etched his name in the IPL record books as he became the youngest to score a fifty in the tournament.

The right-hander hit 4 fours and 2 sixes and scored 50 from 49 balls as he broke his RR teammate Sanju Samson and Prithvi Shaw’s record. While Sanju and Shaw had scored their first IPL fifty when they were 18 years 169 days old, Riyan achieved the feat, aged 17 years and 175 days.

Riyan walked out to bat in the sixth over after the fall of Mahipal Lomror and when RR had only 30 runs on the board. He got out on the final delivery of the RR innings as Trent Boult scalped his wicket.

Earlier, after electing to bat, RR failed to do justice to their skipper Rahane’s decision and could not post a big total on the board. (IPL 2019, DC vs RR: FOLLOW LATEST UPDATES)

For DC, Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra starred with the ball as the two scalped three wickets each to deny RR innings any momentum.

Ishant set the ball rolling for DC as the pacer dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, who was leading RR after Steve Smith’s return to Australia, in the second over. The right-arm pacer then sent Liam Livingstone packing in his second over.

While Sanju Samson was out run out for five, Ishant struck once again to remove Mahipal Lomror as RR lost as many as four wickets in the powerplay.

Mishra joined the wicket-taking party and derailed RR innings further as he dismissed – Gopal, Stuart Binny and Krishnappa Gowtham and reduced the visitors to 65/7.
