Glenn Maxwell has been in poor form so far for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015. He has failed to make any impact whatsoever and was dropped in their last match. Shiamak Unwalla feels that more than anyone else, it has been Maxwell’s failure that has hampered KXIP.

Glenn Maxwell was in fantastic form for Australia in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. He seemed to have reinvented himself and ended up playing some outstanding innings. His progression of scores for Australia in the World Cup read: 66, 1, 88, 102, 44 not out, and 23. He was hitting the ball hard and clean, and barring Steve Smith, he looked like Australia’s best batsman. IPL 2015 Highest wicket-taker: List of best bowlers in IPL 8

Just about a month later, and his form seem to have has deserted him completely. In the five matches he has played for KXIP so far, Maxwell has made three single-digit scores and has crossed 30 just once. He has been woefully out of touch and was even dropped from the team in KXIP’s last match. IPL 2015 Points Table & Team Standings

KXIP have looked like a pale shade of their former selves, especially given how dominant they were in IPL 2014. Last year, it  was Maxwell and David Miller, who decimated the opposition bowlers. Between the two of them, they ensured that KXIP had enough firepower to both set and chase down massive scores. With Virender Sehwag, Manan Vohra, and Wriddhiman Saha firing as well, KXIP were a tough side to beat. IPL 2015 Most 6s and 4s: List of most dangerous batsmen in IPL 8

So far in IPL 2015, only George Bailey has looked in any kind of form. Even Mitchell Johnson and Akshar Patel, both of whom did well last year, have flattered to deceive. Sandeep Sharma has been their saving grace with the ball, while Anureet Singh has backed him up well. However, KXIP’s batting has let the team down more often than not. More than anyone else, it is Maxwell’s failure that has hampered the team. Maxwell is the man who can completely obliterate the opposition’s bowling, and turn the game in the course of few overs. He was their game-changer last year and held the Orange Cap for a while also. IPL 2015 Schedule: IPL 8 match time table with venue details

Miller, Johnson, Akshar, and Sehwag have not been in the great form either, but it is Maxwell whom KXIP will look for to boost them. Maxwell is a confidence player; once he gets that one elusive big innings he will string together a few of them. Maxwell will make a comeback to the side sooner rather than later. KXIP will hope that a return to form for Maxwell will translate to their success as a team as well. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015: Complete coverage
