India and Sri Lanka will be playing in the finals of the ICC World T20 2014 at Dhaka. Bharath Seervi brings out a statistical compilation of the previous four finals of ICC World T20.
Results of ICC World T20 Finals
In this edition, both the finalists are Asian teams like in the first 2 editions when India & Pakistan and Pakistan & Sri Lanka were the finalists respectively. The 2010 edition is the only one in which no Asian team managed to reach the finals of the tournament.

The inaugural World T20 was won by India beating their neighbours, Pakistan, in a thriller by 5 runs at Johannesburg. Pakistan being the runner up in the first edition, reached the finals once again in the second edition in England and defeated Sri Lanka easily by 8 wickets at Lord’s. In the third edition, there was no subcontinent team to reach the finals. Australia and England were competing for the T20 crown and the latter were crowned as they beat the former by seven wickets at Bridgetown. Sri Lanka having been the runner ups in 2009, reached their second final in 2012 against West Indies in their home country, but couldn’t chase the target set by West Indies and lost the final by 36 runs at Colombo.
