India romped home to yet another convincing win in the second One-Day International (ODI) against Zimbabwe at Harare. They retained the same side that beat the hosts convincingly in the first match. With the series in the bag, there will be questions as to whether MS Dhoni should make any changes in the third match. Only four Indian batsmen have batted in the series so far. Manish Pandey, coming in at No. 4, has faced just one ball. The likes of Kedar Jadhav and Dhoni himself have are yet to bat. Talking about the bench strength (in terms of batting), India have Faiz Fazal, Mandeep Singh and Rishi Dhawan (all-rounder) at their disposal. While it might be exciting to see them play in the final ODI, it would be better if India retained the same team in the final game. Those who played the first two matches have done well, and it would be advisable if they were given a full series. All 16 in the squad have been given a nod because of their recent success in the domestic competitions and thoroughly deserve a place in the squad. They may have to wait a bit longer to make their international debuts.

Even in Australia, we saw the likes of Rishi, Gurkeerat Singh and Pandey get just a few games and it eventually didn’t work out well for them. Pandey, however, scored a match-winning century at Sydney, but got just a total of two innings in the entire series Down Under. Off-spinner Jayant Yadav had a good season n the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 for Delhi Daredevils (DD), and the team management will be tempted to play him in the T20Is. Jaydev Unadkat, on the other hand, played just one match in the IPL 2016 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but he has had an excellent domestic season for Saurashtra and could make his T20I debut in the series.

Dhoni has often said that he is not a big fan of changing a winning combination, and it will not be surprising if he plays the same playing XI in the final ODI against Zimbabwe.
