Bangladesh thrashed India by six wickets to pull off a maiden bilateral series win. Mustafizur Rahman continued his dream start to international cricket, taking six wickets to follow his fifer on debut in the previous match. Shiamak Unwalla looks at this and other highlights from the Second one-Day International (ODI).

1. Rohit Sharma sets India back early: Rohit Sharma was India’s best batsman in the first ODI. He scored a composed 60, and it was his wicket that sparked India’s eventual surrender. In the second ODI though, he could only last two balls, edging one from Mustafizur to gully. It was the first of many for Mustafizur on the day. Scorecard: India vs Bangladesh, 2nd ODI at Mirpur

2. India lose wickets in clumps: Shikhar Dhawan and No. 3 Virat Kohli led a fight-back for India with a 74-run alliance for the second wicket. However, India went from 74 for 1 to 110 for 4 in no time. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina then steadied the ship somewhat, taking India to 163 before the next wicket fell. And then once again, one wicket led to another, and so on till India were cleaned out for 200. They could not even survive the rain-shortened 47 overs.

3. Mustafizur Rahman’s fairytale continues: Before the first ODI few outside Bangladesh would have heard about Mustafizur Rahman. Now, his name will forever be etched in the annals of the sport. He became the first man in history to take a five-wicket haul and a six-wicket haul in his first two ODIs. He removed Rohit, Raina, Dhoni, Akshar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja — all reputed batsmen! Updates: India vs Bangladesh, 2nd ODI at Mirpur

4. Virat Kohli’s controversial catch: Bangladesh could have been off to a poor start, with Tamim Iqbal hitting Dhawal Kulkarni‘s second delivery to Virat Kohli at mid off. Kohli dove forward to take the catch, and celebrated immediately. However, the on-field umpire chose to check with the third umpire, who said there was sufficient doubt. 5. Bangladesh batsmen show remarkable tenacity: Bangladesh were hungry for the win. Despite the fact that only batsman (Shakib Al Hasan) scored a half-century they still managed to win easily because everyone got starts. They ensured that unlike India’s innings, wickets did not fall in quick succession. As many as three batsmen were out in the 30s, but no batsman was out for a single-digit score.

6. Bangladesh create history: With this win, Bangladesh won their first ever bilateral ODI series against India. They had set things in motion with an excellent 79-run win in the first ODI — the highest ever in terms of runs for Bangladesh — and they followed it up with a professional and efficient all-round display to create history.
