The first Test of the series between India and New Zealand will be played at Green Park, Kanpur. This game will mark the beginning of the long home season for India in longest format of the game. The New Zealand series will be followed by two crucial and highly anticipated series against England and Australia. Also, with this game, India will enter the club of prestigious team’s who has played 500 or more Tests in the history of cricket. With every passing playing day in Tests, there are always milestones and records are being rewritten in the record books with some players reaching some different landmarks in their career. Abhishek Kumar presents some of the interesting numbers ahead of the first Test.

1. Ajinkya Rahane needs 138 runs more to complete his 2,000 Test runs.

2. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin needs 7 more to complete 200 wickets in Tests. If he does that in first Test, then Ashwin will become the second fastest bowler to reach this landmark after Clarrie Grimmett (36 Tests).

3. Kiwi pacer Neil Wagner needs 6 more wickets to complete his 100 wickets in Tests. If he does that in first Test, then Wagner will become the fastest Kiwi bowler to reach this landmark and 14th player from New Zealand to take 100 or more wickets in Tests. Also, if he ends up taking only 5 wickets, then Wagner will complete his 500 First-Class wickets and 40 runs more make him enter the club of 2,000 First-Class runs.

4. Rohit Sharma need 54 runs more to complete his 1,000 runs in Tests and if he scores 67, then he will enter the club of those with 6,000 First-Class runs.

5. Only 2 wins for New Zealand against India in India and this is the least number of wins by them against any team while playing in foreign land. Also, this is third worst record by any team in India after Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, who are yet to register their first win in India.

6. So far, New Zealand have played 31 Tests in India. They have lost 13, won 2 and 16 Tests have been drawn.

7. India have won 13 games against New Zealand at home. This is their best record against any team at home. Australia and England are two other teams to lose most number of Tests in India with 19 and 15 defeats respectively.

8. This will be India’s 500th Test, with this they will become fourth team in the history of cricket to play 500 or more Tests after West Indies (517), Australia (791) and England (976).

9. India have played 248 Tests so far at home and this is the third most number of Tests to be played by any team at their home after Australia (404) and England (501).

10. Out of those 248 Tests, India won 87. This is the fourth most number of wins in Tests to be registered by any team at home after England (207), Australia (230) and South Africa (93).

11. So far, 21 Tests have been played at Kanpur, in which India won 6 and lost 3. Only 2 out of them were against New Zealand in which India won one and draw one.

12. New Zealand have managed to avert the series defeat in their last three Test series in Asia as all three ended in a draw. Those three series were against Sri Lanka (2012-13), Bangladesh (2013-14) and Pakistan (2014-05).
