India continued their winning chariot against Pakistan in ICC World T20 matches, defeating their arch-rivals by 6 wickets in Match 19 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2016 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. India won the toss and elected to field first, and Pakistan posted a sub-par total of 118 for 5 in the allotted 18 overs after rain shortened the match. The hosts chased down the total comfortably with the pair of Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh sharing another match-winning partnership. Indian captain MS Dhoni came in and helped India to a crucial victory. Hardik Pandya’s superb catch: Pakistan were put in to bat by MS Dhoni, and got off to a sedate start. It took a diving and crashing Hardik Pandya to come off with superb catch for India to take their first wicket. Sharjeel Khan, in an attempt to pull Suresh Raina, got a top-edge that flew to Pandya, who after a tumbling catch. Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal steer Pakistan to 118: Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal stitched together a 24-ball 41-run stand for the fourth wicket with Pakistan precariously placed at 3 for 60. Malik scored 24 runs and Akmal contributed 16 in the stand. Both cashed in a total of 28 runs from two overs, (off the 14th over from Pandya and the 15th from Jasprit Bumrah).  Akmal departed with the score on 101 with Malik following soon with the score on 105. Mohammad Sami’s double strike: India were chasing 119 runs to win from 18 overs. Mohammad Sami came on to ball with hosts placed at 18 for 1. After getting hit for a boundary off his first ball, he struck with his third ball to get Shikhar Dhawan to chop the ball on to the stumps for 6. Off the very next ball, Suresh Raina too fell in the same fashion as Dhawan, getting his stump uprooted with a heavy inside edge.

Kohli’s marvelous innings: Coming in again after the fall of the first wicket, Virat Kohli made it a point to champion India to another win over Pakistan in a T20 World Cup tie. Kohli started cautiously with Mohammad Aamer bowling and India losing back-to-back wickets. Kohli then along with Yuvraj Singh steered India through the Pakistan bowling attack.  The pair added 61 runs off 44 balls before Yuvraj departed. Kohli went on to achieve his 14th T20I half-century in 34 balls. Kohli showed exemplary class in his timing and placement, smashing the ball between fielders.

Special Mention — National Anthem of India and Pakistan: An India-Pakistan tie is bound to ignite passion, with emotions running high. The match got off to an auspicious start with cricketing great such as Sachin Tendulkar, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, and Sunil Gavaskar along with other greats being facilitated. To make things even more exciting, the National Anthems were sung by-popular names. Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan sang the Indian National Anthem while Pakistan’s National Anthem was sung by Shafkat Amanat Ali Khan, which set the tone for a thrilling match.
