Sri Lanka were never in the hunt in the 2nd ODI against India at Mohali once Rohit Sharma decided to celebrate his wedding anniversary in style. Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh went through a multitude of emotions in the stands as Rohit hammered the Sri Lankans to pulp for an unbeaten 153-ball 208. India piled up 392 for 4 and restricted Sri Lanka to 251 for 8. Not many sides have come back from a humiliating defeat in such emphatic fashion to level a series. India and Sri Lanka will now move to Visakhapatnam to play the decider, on December 17.

Records involving Rohit Sharma:

3 ODI double-hundreds by Rohit when nobody has even 2. Rohit’s other double-hundreds were 209 against Australia at Bengaluru in 2013-14 and 264 — still the world record by far — against Sri Lanka at Kolkata in 2014-15. Interestingly, 5 of the 7 ODI double-hundreds have been scored by Indians.

3 List A double-hundreds by Rohit Sharma, more than anyone else. Rohit went past Ali Brown, who has done it twice. However, while Brown’s double-hundreds came in domestic matches, all 3 of Rohit’s innings came in ODIs.

5 ODI 150s by Rohit, the joint-most in history. Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner also have 5 apiece. Tendulkar, Warner, and Rohit are also the only ones with four 160s. Rohit’s four 170s are the most; while he shares the record for most 180s (three) with Martin Guptill, he remains the only one with three 190s.

12 sixes hit by Rohit today, the 2nd-most by a captain in an ODI. Only AB de Villiers (16 against West Indies at Johannesburg in 2014-15) had hit more.

45 sixes for Rohit in 2017, the most by an Indian in a single calendar year. Tendulkar had hit 40 sixes in 1998. In fact, only de Villiers (58 sixes in 2015) and Shahid Afridi (48 in 2002) have hit more sixes than Rohit in a calendar year.

38 sixes for Rohit against Sri Lanka, the 4th-most by anyone. Only Afridi (63), MS Dhoni (45), and Inzamam-ul-Haq (38) have hit more.

6 ODI hundreds for Rohit in 2017, the joint-most by anyone. Virat Kohli has also hit 6, while nobody else has even 5.

12 hundred-run partnerships between Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan. Of Indians, only Sourav Ganguly and Tendulkar (26) and Sehwag and Tendulkar (13) have more.

328 runs added by India for their first two partnerships (Rohit, with Dhawan and Iyer). This is the 3rd-highest in Indian history, bettered against Australia at Jaipur in 2013-14 (362, by Rohit, Dhawan, and Kohli) and against New Zealand (341, by Ganguly, Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid) at Hyderabad in 1999-00. This is also the 9th-most in history.

1 instance of an Indian being a part of a double-hundred stand and a hundred-stand in the same ODI. Rohit himself had added 202 with Kohli and 128 with Robin Uthappa during his 264 at Kolkata in 2014-15. Today he added 115 with Dhawan and 213 with Iyer.
