India’s key player Shikhar Dhawan remained out for Pakistan game due to minor injury, while Rohit Sharma also has gone through precautionary x-ray after being hit on his left toe by Mohammad Aamer. Sri Lanka have some changes made to their team as well, with some senior players like Angelo Mathews giving best figures at the start of the tournament 1 for 8 and Shehan Jayasuriya, who has comeback was quite impressive in the match against Bangladesh. Lasith Malinga remains out for the tournament after persisting injury leaving the captaincy responsibility on Mathews. As India and Sri Lanka face off, let us look at the likely key battles to watch out on Tuesday:

1) Virat Kohli vs Angelo Mathews: This will be an interesting contest to watch out with hard hitter on one end and fast bowler from the other. It will be crackling mix with possibility of the ball either going for boundaries or the batsman getting bowled out with a yorker. Kohli was the key player in the match against Pakistan, who remained calm and composed after the opening batsmen crumbled. Mathews has never got an opportunity to show his bowling skills against Kohli as he was rested for T20I series in India. Could there be another Kohli-Aamer jig amongst these two players? 2) Rohit Sharma vs Dushmantha Chameera: Rohit has remained consistent with his form right since the Australia tour and followed the same principle in T20I series against Sri Lanka, which did not really work in his favor with Chameera getting his wicket in two matches out of three. Chameera’s spells had been lauded by many Sri Lanka cricketers and the perfect yorkers. This will be yet another pair which you cannot get your eyes off!

3) Hardik Pandya vs Nuwan Kulasekara: Just when you think India needed an all-rounder, Hardik Pandya was gifted at the perfect time with numerous T20I series, including the series against Australia and Sri Lanka to cement his place in the side. He has perfectly blended the domestic experience at International level, chipping in with crucial overs in the middle and hitting the ball out of the park with ease and consistency with bat in hand. Nuwan Kulasekara on the other hand, with his perfect pace and bounce can make or break the innings of the team as witnessed in first match against UAE. 4) Dinesh Chandimal vs Ashish Nehra: Ashish Nehra has been more composed and perfect with his length that has given early breakthroughs for India in almost every match. In the recent T20I matches Nehra has been the key player with one or two wickets in every match conceding just 17-20 runs in every game. On the other hand, Chandimal led the team from front as captain during Sri Lanka’s tour to India when Sri Lanka were crumbling and he remained the highest scorer in every match. Though Chandimal has had bad luck with spinners in India it will be interesting to see how this new pair can spark the game.

5) Shehan Jayasuriya vs Ravindra Jadeja: Shehan Jayasuriya showed his skills and potential on Sunday against Bangladesh lifting the spirit for Sri Lanka when they needed some runs on board. Though Sri Lanka played their innings after Bangladesh, the fall of wickets made it difficult for Sri Lanka to maintain the pace and reach the target until Jayasuriya came in and boosted the innings. Jadeja has always remained a surprise element for India with two to three wickets in every match, especially when he got the wicket of Sarfraz Ahmed, Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz against Pakistan. Both are magical players for their teams and will bring some twists and turns in the match.
