At the end of eighth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Bharath Seervi analyses the bowling statistics of the tournament in detail.

In the end it was Chennai Super Kings‘s (CSK) Dwayne Bravo winning the Purple Cap – award for highest wicket taker in the tournament – for the second time in the history of the tournament. He had won it in 2013 season picking up 32 wickets in 18 matches; this time his tally was 26 wickets in 17 matches. Interestingly, CSK lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the final of both tournaments at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. IPL 2015 Highest wicket-taker: List of best bowlers in IPL 8

Bravo also had the best strike rate in the tournament (a wicket every 12 balls), his teammate Ashish Nehra held the record for the best bowling figure in the tournament, taking four wickets for 10 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). His teammate Ravichandran Ashwin had the best economy rate in the tournament (5.84). The least number of runs conceded in four overs in a match were nine runs by Zaheer Khan for Delhi Daredevils (DD) while picking up two wickets against CSK. Zaheer Khan’s two for nine in four overs remained the most economical four-over spell in the tournament consisting of 19 dot balls of the 24 balls delivered.

Karn Sharma conceded seven sixes for SRH against CSK at Chepauk in Chennai which is the most by any bowler in a single innings in the tournament. Yuzvendra Chahal conceded six sixes for RCB against MI at Wankhede stadium. Six other instances of a bowler conceding five sixes in an innings– by James Faulkner, Abu Nechim, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel and Karanveer Singh.

# Ashish Nehra conceded 46 runs to Lendl Simmons throughout the tournament – most by any bowler against a particular batsman.

In the last six IPL editions (2010 to 2015), the Purple Cap holders have not been from the winning teams. The award was won by Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals) and RP Singh (Deccan Chargers) in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
