Jofra Archer struck just in the nick of time to send the dangerous Chris Gayle in the sixth over back as Rajasthan Royals fight back at the end of the Powerplay in Match 32 of their Indian Premier League (IPl 2019) fixture against Kings XI Punjab at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday.

Put into bat, Kings XI Punjab were off to a flier with the Universe Boss smashing back-to-back sixes in the second over off Jaydev Unadkat. The first one was in the air for a long time but the air at Mohali took it over the deep square leg rope. The second one was just a bad ball by Unadkat, who bowled it perfectly for the big Jamaican allrounder to free his arms and whacked it elegantly over long-on.

Gayle went berserk and reached 30 off 18 deliveries by the end of the fifth over. However, when Archer, who’s in the reckoning for a ICC World Cup 2019 spot in the England team, returned to bowl his second over, the scenario of the match changed drastically.

In the third ball of the fifth over, Gayle smashed it for a boundary, but not before Sanju Samson made a meal of it courtesy the iffy bounce near the boundary ropes. Archer was fuming and channelised his outrage in the next delivery. He bowled a back of a length delivery with some extra bounce, Gayle poked at it, but it brushed the outside edge that ended up in Samson making no mistake to complete the catch this time.

Gayle departed for 30 off 22, his innings studded with three maximums and a couple of boundaries as Kings XI Punjab ended their Powerplay with 39 runs for the loss of one wicket.
