Day One of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 auction took place on Wednesday. A total of 70 players were sold to the eight teams. There were a few surprises along the way as some well-known names went unsold and some went for a higher price than expected. During the auction to make hay

Sadly was he told

The franchises thought

Even with the coin for the toss.

Dinesh Karthik the ’keeper was sore

Dhoni meant he was needed no more

He could still hit the ball

To think he would fetch 12.5 crore.

Mitchell Johnson

Thirty seven wickets in the whitewash

Add to that the great loopy moustache

But, when came his turn

Just a month after the urn

Johnson went for just a little cash

Muralitharan with the smile on his face

Quiet Bedi – he’s an absolute ace!

But when up came his name

So dripping with fame

The price never rose above the base.
