After running out of new controversies and creative ideas to generate them, Indian news channels have appealed to Wikileaks to leak the slapgate video of Harbhajan Singh and Shantakumaran Sreesanth. This was done via a letter written with inputs from editors of various news channels. The letter was sent via email to the official email id of the US embassy, hoping that the same would eventually get hacked and the letter would reach the Wikileaks mail box.
Â
“Wikileaks has been revealing hidden facts/scams which are hardly of any interest to the general public. People know that 80% of politicians are corrupt, so why reiterate the same old thing? No one is interested in that. What interest people are controversies and gossip. For now, it is the slapgate gate controversy which tops the chart.
“Why canât Wikileaks, for once leak, do something which would be of interest to the common man and give us content to attract eye-balls?” reasoned the Editor-in-chief of one of Indiaâs biggest news channels.
Â
Responding promptly to this matter, Julian Assange, the enigmatic founder of Wikileaks, said, “I donât think hacking BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] servers and leaking the video would be a big deal for us. Also I believe that making the video available for public viewing would be a step in the right direction for us. This would help us build our profile on the sub-continent as people still donât know much about us.”
Â
The announcement has made IPL fans a happy lot, since no fresh controversy has erupted and many fans are already bored with the cricket. News channels said they are bracing up for saturation coverage of the impending leakage of hitherto unseen footage of the infamous drama. But the protagonists involved in the fracas, Harbhajan and Sreesanth, declined to comment or tweet further on the subject, although Sreesanth promised to tweet on the topic again if he completely went out of the news.
Â
However, all the excitement disappeared and gloom pervaded news-rooms once again after BCCI announced that they are moving the well-guarded video clip to an IRCTC server for security reasons.
Wikileaks responded to the news by admitting that they are yet to find a way to login to the IRCTC [Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation]Â website, let alone hacking it!
