KKR’s abysmal catching against KXIP at Eden Gardens

Everyone expects defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to play with glamour in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and create an impact. Being the champions of the last edition, one expects KKR to replicate the same form in all the three departments.

In this eighth edition of the IPL, KKR have performed well but not in a clinical manner. Against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Eden Gardens, KKR displayed a horrifying show on the field. In a comedy of errors, the Gautam Gambhir led franchise dropped half a dozen catches, helping KXIP pose a huge total of 183.

The embarrassment started with the skipper himself, when he dropped a catch of Murali Vijay at covers. Though it was tough, Gambhir’s timing of the jump was poor and had he timed it well, it would have been a ripper of a catch. With Gambhir’s dropped catch, started the terrible show where Brad Hogg, Umesh Yadav, Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan and Johan Botha all got enrolled in the list.

This was one of the terrible fielding display from the reigning champions and surely the Eden Garden’s crowd never ever dreamt of such an exhibition. Though the catching was embarrassing from a top side, it was equally humorous to see the KKR players dazed as what exactly was happening in the centre of the ground.

Fortunately, the match which went to the wire swung KKR’s way as they won the match by a whisker and finally gave their supporters something to cherish for after a miserable fielding performance.
