Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lahore Lions (LL) face off in the seventh encounter of the tournament at Hyderabad on Sunday. While the Pakistani T20 champions have had a great run so far and will aim to continue it throughout the group stage, KKR will look to solidify their chances of making it to the semis with a win. Amit Banerjee takes a look at the possible XI that Kolkata might field today.

Top-order: Though the top-order failed miserably in their previous encounter against the Chennai Super Kings, the likes of Manvinder Bisla, Gautam Gambhir, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan will be more wary in their encounter against Lahore, especially against the in-form Aizaz Cheema. Robin Uthappa likely to make a start today in place of Bisla. Uthappa was  the owner of the Orange Cap in this years’ edition of India Premier League (IPL). If he is on song then he can trample any bowling attack.

Middle-Order: It was ultimately the middle-order trio of Ryan ten Doeschate, Suryakumar Yadav and Andre Russell that saved the day for Kolkata, and as such is likely to be retained for their second game of the group stage. Ten Doeschate and Russell’s half-centuries in the previous encounter thwarted the Chennai attack that included the likes of Ashish Nehra who took four wickets for 21 runs.

Tail-enders: Kolkata will likely retain their spinners in the form of Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla aside from pacers Pat Cummins and Umesh Yadav. Though the bowling attack hasn’t shown its teeth in the tournament yet, they are on paper one of the most dangerous.

Likely XI: Robin Uthappa (wk), Gautam Gambhir (c), Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Ryan ten Doeschate, Suryakumar Yadav, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav
